This was not the first mural I ever painted. The first mural I ever painted was in my closet, and it was of cartoon people doing various silly things, like dancing the YMCA, or hula hooping. I'll have to upload pictures of that later . . . once I track them down. This was my second mural, and it is of Ayers Rock, in Australia. I've never been to Ayers Rock, but I've been in love with Australia since the first time I saw Crocodile Dundee II. I'm not nearly as embarrassed of that fact as I should be.
The piece was inspired by Vincent van Gogh during the long period of my life when I was obsessed with him and proudly turned my nose up at stuffed Van Gogh doll's with detachable ears. I would then remind people that he didn't really cut off his entire ear, but only the lobe, and he didn't wrap it up and give it to his girlfriend, he stumbled in a stupor to her doorstep, where he passed out. I would also add, with a sniffle, that the poor man had epilepsy and just nicked it while shaving, that's all.
I painted it with acrylic paint.
